Ramatlhodi says he met Kathrada on his return from exile but had read about the struggle icon in history books.

Ziyanda Ngcobo, EWN reporter says there have been many anecdotes of Kathrada's relationship with Nelson Mandela and his kind and caring nature at his memorial service on Tuesday.

Anti-apartheid struggle stalwart Sophie Williams-de Bruyn spoke of Kathrada's love and investment in young people. She recalled Kathrada attending a fees-must-fall meeting at the University of Witswatersrand despite being in a frail condition.

On a more light-hearted note, we've heard that uncle 'Kathy' enjoyed watching the SABC soap, Isidingo.

Paul Mashatile, Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements and leader of the African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng says it is a sad day for the entire liberation movement.

He never stopped working, even after he was no longer actively involved in leadership structures of the ANC we know that he was very active in the Kathrada Foundation pushing for non racialism in this country.
