It has emerged that Communications Minister Faith Muthambi has written letters to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) interim board members saying they cannot act until they have been vetted.
Media Monitoring Africa director, William Bird, says the minister wrote the letter under her role as the chairperson of the inter-ministerial committee on communications.
Bird says this is "insanely illegal" and the minister is doing it to protect former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
