University and school students working together to break down gender stereotypes

The Gender And Sex Project brings together students from the University of Cape Town and high school learners to hold challenging conversations about gender.

Yana Abrahams, Vice President of Gender and Sex Project, explains the purpose of a series of workshops taking place this week at Riverside College with pupils from Grade 7 to 12.

We outlined different gender identities, and how gender as a stature operates in society and trying to delineate this idea of physical sex from gender which is more social.

Yana Abrahams, Vice President of Gender and Sex Project at UCT

This is all going to lead, eventually toward the end of the year, to a memorandum of understanding between teachers, parents, and pupils to make the school a gender neutral school and almost a gender-free space.
