This is a complete distraction, the country has been captured - Vavi

EWN Reporter, Stephen Grootes says the markets will clearly react to the recent drastic changes by President Jacob Zuma.

Zuma reshuffled cabinet in the early hours of Friday, firing five Ministers including Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas.

Grootes says it is surprising that Zuma decided to keep Bathabile Dlamini and Faith Muthambi to be part of his new cabinet.

The real question is what does Cyril Ramaphosa do? Does he resign or does he stay on and try to fight in some other way?

Stephen Grootes, EWN

Gordhan has been replaced by Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba and Sifiso Buthelezias his deputy. See complete list of new ministers here.

Deputy General-Secretary of the South African Communist Party(SACP) Solly Mapaila says the matter will be discussed later with the ANC on Friday.

Changes have been made and now we have to deal with the consequences. the problem is the manner in which it happened, and the reasons why it happened.

Solly Mapaila, deputy general secretary - SACP

Mapaila says Zuma's actions will work on the confidence of the newly appointed Ministers, whether or not they do right... whatever Zuma says goes. He says he believes in Gigaba's capabilities and hopes that he wont go and enrich the Gupta family.

Former Cosatu general secretary, Zwelinzima Vavi says what Zuma is doing is a full distraction of the country saying the country has been captured.

Now political hyenas will eat freely without facing any consequences.
