Western Cape Community Safety MEC, Dan Plato and other officials visited Avian Park to conduct a safety outreach programme in Worcester on Monday. The area has seen numerous killings as a result of gang wars.
EWN Reporter Shamiela Fisher was at the outreach programme. She says the officials wished to engage with the youth to try to sway them from participating in criminal activities.
Then we embarked on a walk-about through the community and it was quite evident at that point that there's a lot of tension in the area.

Fisher also says many of the community members were reluctant to engage with the MEC and officials owing to the presence of gang members during the visit to the community.
