The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) says that 87% of social grants have been paid out in the Western Cape, as of Wednesday morning.
However, EWN's Lindsay Dentlinger reports that at least 247 beneficiaries have lodged formal complaints about deductions for amongst other things electricity, funeral policies and loans.
The amounts range from anything between R20 to R120.— Lindsay Dentlinger, EWN reporter
Dentlinger says many more beneficiaries may have been short-changed but have not opened cases.
Sassa claims they have deployed additional customer care officials to assist with the situation, Dentlinger explains.
She advises that there are a total of 1.1 million grant beneficiaries in the province.
