"It's very clear Zuma won this round"

The African National Congress (ANC) held a briefing at Luthuli House earlier on Wednesday following the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.

At the meeting, Gwede Mantashe, Secretary General, said ANC members have accepted the President's reason for axing former Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan.

Adriaan Basson, Editor of News24 says President Jacob Zuma is not going anywhere despite calls from civil organisations and opposition parties calling for his resignation.

If the long game for people like Cyril Ramaphosa is winning the Elective Conference in December, this may not be the worst thing to have happened to them.

Adriaan Basson, Editor of News24

The alternative would have been, kicking out Jacob Zuma as State President but giving him nine months to regroup for an Elective Conference in December.

Adriaan Basson, Editor of News24

Basson says as things stand it is very clear that President Zuma has won this round and is not phased by the members of the ANC who were calling for his resignation.

Basson says he doesn't believe Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa, who openly criticised President Zuma, will receive much support. He says a lot is stake should President Zuma be removed from office.
