SACP revives calls for judicial inquiry into state capture

SA Communist Party (SACP) stalwart Jeremy Cronin spoke out boldly at the Cape Town memorial for struggle stalwart Ahmed Kathrada on Thursday afternoon.

Cronin has renewed calls for an independent judicial commission of inquiry into state capture, as recommended in last year's Public Protector report.

He has linked President Jacob Zuma's latest cabinet reshuffle to recent court cases linked to the controversial Gupta family.

Last week there were notable court cases involving the financial sector and both were connected to the Gupta business empire.

The SACP has reiterated calls for Zuma to step down and for the residential rights of the Guptas to be revoked.

Cronin slammed the ANC's National Working Committee for blindly accepting the so-called 'irretrievable breakdown' of relations between the Zuma and former Finance Minster Pravin Gordhan.

It's not acceptable for the ANC NWC to say they accept President Zuma's grounds for firing comrade PG.

Jeremy Cronin, SACP Deputy General Secretary

That's bizarre as a reason to fire a minister... This is a President and his most senior minister in government.

Cronin asks what steps where taken to remedy the so-called 'irretrievable breakdown' between Zuma and Gordhan since the president first made it known to the party officials in November last year.

What does the NWC have to say? What does the top six have to say? What steps where taken?
