"Still a cadre of the ANC but a cadre of the ANC of Mandela, Sisulu & Kathrada"

A memorial service for late struggle icon, Ahmed Kathrada was held on Thursday afternoon in Cape Town.

Journalist, Pippa Green says the turn out at the event was impressive. Former finance minister, Pravin Gordhan was the keynote speaker.

Green says Kathrada's death has been kind of a pivot. She says a lot of people mentioned Kathrada's letter to President Zuma, asking him to resign.

It has become a political rallying point.

Pippa Green, Journalist

Green says Gordhan has always been a critical strategist and thinker in the movement both before and after democracy.
