YouTube TV goes live in the US (and may replace your DStv subscription one day)

Video-sharing website YouTube has now launched its new live television streaming service, YouTube TV.

While the service is limited to the United States for now, tech expert Aki Anastasiou says that it may soon revolutionise TV-viewing habits across the world and here in Mzansi.

We've gone away from putting up a dish. The world is moving towards a permanent connection where everything is being streamed.

Aki Anastasiou, Technobyte presenter

You can expect YouTube TV to come to other devices around the world... Streaming to your device is really where the future is.

Aki Anastasiou, Technobyte presenter

The $35-per-month service is targeted at those who don't want to pay for traditional TV subscription packages, and people can watch YouTube TV on their TV, phone, tablet or computer.

It's not yet available in South Africa, but in the future you're going to be watching your football and rugby games on YouTube.

Aki Anastasiou, Technobyte presenter

Anastasiou advises that the scale of YouTube viewing outweighs cable television and other networks.

He spoke about YouTube's live TV service, Twitter Lite for people who are data conscious and Google’s Fact Check which is tackling the rise of fake news during the Technobyte segment.

Take a listen to Aki Anastasiou explain:
