South African actress Jennifer Steyn has returned to the Baxter Theatre stage in Howard Barker’s Scenes from an Execution, at the Baxter Theatre.
The story is centered on Galactia, an artist who is commissioned by the Venetian republic to create a painting celebrating the triumph of Venice at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, but defies the directive and portrays what she perceives to be the truth surrounding the war.
Steyn spoke to John Maytham about the artist's said pursuit for truth and how it can be translated in South African politics.
