Lieutenant General Arno Lamoer has served as the Western Cape Commissioner of Police since 2010.
The Hawks have been investigating a potentially corrupt relationship between Lamoer and a Cape Town businessman. The investigation includes three other senior officers.
Lamoer appeared in court on Friday 17 April and charged with over 100 counts including fraud and corruption.
