President Thabo Mbeki says African National Congress (ANC) Members of Parliament (MPs) should vote in the interest of the people when the National Assembly debates a motion of no confidence against President Jacob Zuma next Tuesday.
Speaker Baleka Mbete has scheduled the motion of no confidence to take place on April 18, but declined United Democratic Movement's (UDM) request to vote by secret ballot. The UDM has approached the ConCourt to allow for the secret ballot.
Mbeki is quoted as saying in an article penned exclusively in The Star newspaper that political parties should not act as the voice of political parties in Parliament.
