CodeMakers has taken the task of helping pupils in Umlazi understand science through the art of coding in isiZulu.
The organistion works with schools in the district, allowing children an opportunity to take a piece of technology apart and build their own.
They are using Scratch, a free visual programming language that enables you to create animations, games and interactive stories.

So when you have an idea and you want to bring that idea into existence, the computer really makes it easy to help you to do that. You have that idea, you write it down on paper and then you start bringing the blocks to together. There is already too many barriers for learners to understand and use technology so we downloaded all of the appropriate words that you need to translate, asked the learners to help us, asked paid volunteers and we translated it...— Justin Yarrow, Executive Director of CodeMakers
If you go on the Scratch website you can just click on the little button that looks liked a globe and choose isiZulu and all of the little coding blocks have been translated in isiZulu.— Justin Yarrow, Executive Director of CodeMakers
