Thousands of bus drivers affiliated to various trade unions downed tools on Wednesday after negotiations reached a deadlock, reports EWN's Xolani Koyana.

Bus companies have now requested to resume negotiations with trade unions on Wednesday afternoon.

It seems the bus companies reached out to the Bargaining Council and all the unions have been notified and will meet from 14:30 this afternoon.

The nationwide strike affects bus services including MyCiti, Golden Arrow, Autopax, Greyhound, Putco, Gauteng Coaches, Mega Coaches, Mayibuye, Rea Vaya, and Great North Transport.

It's yet to be seen whether the strike action will be cut short following the negotiations.

Koyana says many commuters claim bus companies did not communicate about the bus strike, leaving many stranded and frustrated.
