Parly places Zuma's no confidence vote on ice

National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete has decided to postpone the motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma until further notice.

The debate and vote on the motion of no confidence Zuma was initially scheduled for Tuesday 18 April.

It has been postponed after opposition parties petitioned for the vote to be pushed back in order to allow a Con Court bid for a secret vote to unfold on 21 April.

The DA had disagreed with Mbete on whether she had the authority to postpone the debate, or if it was to be withdrawn all together, according to Parliament's rule book.

On Tuesday, the UDM and EFF requested Mbete to postpone the debate after the Con Court issued dates for parties in the matter to file relevant documents.

The postponement of the motion will be referred to the National Assembly Programme Committee for its consideration.
