Ipid files fresh evidence against top cop, Phalane

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has filed new evidence in the ongoing corruption investigation against acting national police commissioner, Khomotso Phahlane.

Ipid spokesperson, Moses Dlamini, says Ipid was responding to Phahlane's court bid to set aside the search warrant after his house was searched in connection with his R80 000 sound system.

The latest evidence shows that between 2014 and 2016, Phahlane sold or traded in several cars and was paid well above the book price for the vehicles.

Dlamini says charges against Phahlane also include defeating the ends of justice, money laundering and suspicious payments.

He also says the top cop has not been co-operating with Ipid as he previously promised.

When he was approached, he has not given us any statement. He asked that the questions be sent to him in writing. We have since received letter from his lawyers that he will not cooperate or give any statement.

Moses Dlamini, Ipid spokesperson

Phahlane's lawyer, Piet du Plessis, says the Ipid was late with their replying response and he will only see the documentation today.

Then we will decide whether we going to react and how are we gonna react.

Piet du Plessis, Phahlane's lawyer

It's an orchestrated attack on the general. The general denies any wrongdoing. You have mentioned now that they are charges of intimidation... which is all total nonsense.
