Tim Noakes not guilty of misconduct

Tim Noakes has been found not guilty following a charge of professional misconduct over a tweet sent to a mother about weaning her baby on a low carb/high fat diet.

The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) delivered it's verdict on Friday.

Noakes was taken to task over the matter in 2014, when former president of the Association for Dietetics in South Africa, Claire Julsing Strydom, laid the complaint with the council.

Eyewitness News reporter Shamiela Fisher was at the ruling.

The majority of the committee has found that the complainant could not prove Noakes acted in the capacity as a doctor, also that there is nothing that suggests that he suggested that the move to cease from breast feeding and to go on low-carb high-fat diet is what is beneficial for a baby.

Responding to the judgment Noakes says he never had any doubt that he would win the case.

Judge Adams gave ten rulings and all were in our favor so we got a 100 percent result which is quite exciting.

He says his argument was to wean children off of processed foods and that he would give the same advice again.

There is no question that children should be weaned onto real foods, the only error I made was to use the word LCHF which is kind of dubious..... what I was saying is don't wean your child onto processed foods, ween the child onto real foods, that you prepare yourself and the science says 100% that is right.
