Phahlane allegedly paid building contractors R700 000 cash from boot of his car

New evidence has emerged in court papers filed by Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) in the case involving acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane.

It's alleged that Phahlane paid various building contractors working on his house large sums of cash adding up to R700 000 out of the boot of his car.

R700 000 was paid over to electricians, tilers and plumbers out of the boot of his car in plastic packets in tens of thousands of rands.

What Ipid is saying is that these are dubious financial transactions and valid grounds to be investigating the matter.

The evidence emerged in court papers filed by Ipid to support the validity of the search warrant, reports EWN's Barry Bateman.

The latest affidavit also contains details of numerous car transactions, where Phahlane was paid well above the book price for several vehicles, Bateman explains.

Phahlane has declined to answer any questions relating to the investigation at this stage.
