Simbine could have a battle on his hands in 200m race - Botton

The South Africa Senior National Championships is in its second day in Potchefstroom.

Akani Simbine will line up against Wayde Van Niekerk, Anaso Jobodwana and Gift Leotlela in the 200m event.

While Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt has said he will be keeping a close eye on Van Niekerk, Simbine reclaimed the 100m title in 9.95sec against the world champion on Friday.

How will Saturday’s race play out?

Africa Melane spoke to Wesley Botton, Senior Sports Reporter for the Citizen.

As with the hundred yesterday, we thought that Akani would dominate which he did, but didn’t have light years between himself and the rest of the field which is great.

Wesley Botton, Senior Sports Reporter for Citizen.

It’s awesome to have so many sprinters who are so close to each other that even somebody of Akani Simbine’s caliber isn’t running away from everybody and I think he is going to have a battle on his hands today.

Wesley Botton, Senior Sports Reporter for Citizen.

In the 200, Wayde Van Niekerk is going to be a lot closer to him.
