Eskom board vows to stop Molefe's R30 million pension payout

Former Eskom CEO, Brian Molefe will have to renegotiate his pension payout with Public Enterprise Minister Lynne Brown.

Brown announced that she would not approve the proposed payout to Molefe as he had already been granted a bonus for his contribution to the Eskom turn around.

Khulani Qoma, Eskom board spokesperson, says the board, together with Molefe, is now working around the clock to accede to the ministers request.

Unfortunately, at this point, it is very difficult for me to engage on the merits and demerits. There was a sum consideration and I don't think it was purely to compromise South Africans.

We are beyond that now. We have to now meet the deadlines as set out.

Khulani Qoma, Eskom board spokesperson

Qoma says the board has every intention of complying with the ministers instructions and meet the deadline within seven days. He adds that he does not think Eskom has been behaving in a manner that deliberately taints its image.
