Green light for demolition of GF Jooste Hospital site

Manenberg residents have been concerned about the future of a site on which the old GF Jooste Hospital was located.

CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies spoke to Western Cape Transport MEC Donald Grant to get clarity on what government and the City of Cape Town are planning for the site.

In 2015 the site was demarcated for the establishment of a police training academy but the City did not have money to build and the site was reverted back to the Western Cape government.

According to Grant, a demolition order has been given to a contractor and will start within the next 15 days.

By the end of June, the site will be secure, says Grant.

There is a development call for the site and the process is being run by the premier's office ... The focus will be on youth education and skills development on that particular site.
