Sharapova set to make a comeback after doping ban

Maria Sharapova will return to the court after her doping ban.

The former world No 1 tested positive for meldonium at the 2016 Australian Open.

Her ban has ended and she is scheduled to play at the Stuttgard Open in Germany.

She will play three tournaments in the next four weeks that could get her into Wimbledon: the Stuttgart Grand Prix, the Madrid Open and the Italian Open.

Sports Scientist, Dr Ross Tucker speaks on what this means for advertisers.

She was the most highly paid female athlete in the world until a few years ago so her commercial power is enormous.

Dr Ross Tucker, Sports Scientist

And whats happened now in the women's game is that Serena Williams is no longer playing for a while because of pregnancy...Petra Kvitova was attacked at her home earlier this year so she has been injured.

Dr Ross Tucker, Sports Scientist

So the sport actually at the moment is going to lack a bit of star power, and I think organisers of these tournament have recognised that Sharapova gives it to them so they have to some extent compromised normal wild card behavior to get her in.
