[LISTEN] Random Act of Kindness: Adams Farm Home

The #DisChemFoundation in partnership with CapeTalk donated R50 000 to the Adams Farm Home caring for about 50 intellectually disabled women.

I would invite all your listeners to contact our home, make arrangements to visit us or become a friend of Adams Farm Home.

All fifty residents of a special care home in Tokai can now sleep soundly thanks to a recent Random Act of Kindness by CapeTalk and the Dis-Chem Foundation.

The Adams Farm Home was started on a farm in Tokai, now the modem-day site of Blue Route Mall. This year they’re celebrating the centenary - it was originally established in 1917 but was relocated from Tokai to its present location in Plumstead in 1987.

Speaking on CapeTalk, chairperson of the Adams Farm Home Peter Ryan explained to listeners the needs they face. The fifty residents are all intellectually disabled and do not have the financial means to support themselves - even purchasing basic necessities is a challenge.

CapeTalk’s John Maytham revealed to Mr Ryan that R50 000 would be made available to buy new bed linen for the residents - a basic necessity that was well outside of the financial means of those staying there.

Speaking on behalf of the Dis-Chem Foundation was Penny Stein “New, clean bed linen is something most of us are able to take for granted. For the residents of the Adams Farm Home is has to be very far down their list of priorities due to the lack of funding. I am delighted that we’re able to support them and hopefully offer a good nights rest and an increased sense of dignity”
