Cape: 88 days of water left, tougher water restrictions on the cards

The City of Cape Town has reduced its daily water consumption to 600 million litres a day and water restrictions have been tightened this week due to lowering dam levels.

Kieno Kammie spoke to Councilor Xanthea Limberg about the impact of Wednesday's rains and whether this may change anything.

The rain was actually quiet wide spread which means it would have probably helped with a lot in our catchment areas but we wont be able to give the exact figures at the moment.

She says people seem to alter their consumption levels based on the weather.

We are really pleading that residents don't do that and keep their consumption at a standard level, so about 100 liters per person, per day.

Xanthea Limberg, Mayco member for informal settlements, water and waste services

Currently our dams are at 23.5 percent, so essentially 13.5 percent of usable water...approximately 88 days of water.
