Calls for Buhari to step down over rumors of poor health

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has skipped a second consecutive federal Cabinet meeting, opting to rest and work from home.

Buhari was out of the country for 50 days earlier this year and only returned in March, leaving some to speculate about the state of his health following his recent absence.

EWN's Nigerian correspondent Samson Omale says the president has been very scarce, making only a few public appearances.

He has barely showed up to most of the activities he's scheduled to perform since he returned.

In the last three weeks Buhari has not been able to preside over cabinet meetings.

Details of his medical condition have still not been disclosed, Omale explains.

Omale says government officials have been trying to withhold information regarding the state of Buhari's health, while images surfaced last week showing him in a frail state.

At the same time, there have been calls for him to resign, if he is not fit to preside over his office.
