EWN reporter, Xolani Koyana says earlier this week Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) announced that it will be reopening the probe into the payments that were made to consults while the African National Congress (ANC) was in charge of the Western Cape before 2009.
We know that the auditor general, before 2014, had flagged quite a few payments that were made to consultants by departments such as the provincial transport and public works department as well as the health department.— Xolani Koyana, EWN reporter
Suspended Western Cape African National Congress chairperson Marius Fransman was Transport and Public Works MEC at the time. The Health Department was headed by ANC Member of Provincial Legislature Pierre Uys.
The only reason it is surfacing now is because Fransman tried to interdict and block the entire process.— Xolani Koyana, EWN reporter
Koyana adds that Fransman and Uys were first summoned in 2014 and failed to appear on two occasions before the committee.
