Songs cheering and denouncing President Zuma sang at Cosatu May Day rally

President Jacob Zuma is expected to address gatherers at a National Workers May Day rally in Bloemfontein. President Zuma will be attending the rally despite the fact that at least three of Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) unions have said they believe it would be wrong for him to address the event.

The South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU), Nehawu National Health Education & Allied Workers Union (NEHAWU) and The South African Municipal Workers' Union (SAMWU) have said they believe President Zuma speaking at the event would be sending confusing messages considering Cosatu's resolution for President Zuma to leave the presidency.

EWN reporter, Clement Manyathela attended the rally.

Some are singing songs in support of the president.

Manyathela says Cosatu's President, Sdumo Dlamini insists that Cosatu is united and that this event will show just united the federation and different unions are. Manyathela adds that the events looks like an African National Congress (ANC) event because of the large number of ANCYL and ANCWL members.

It looks as though it is an ANC rally. We know that the ANCYL in this province has already confirmed that they did mobilize support for the President.

Clement Manyathela, EWN Reporter

Manyathela says the group that was heard singing songs denouncing President Zuma was seen standing in isolation outside the venue either on their own accord or because they were barred from going inside.
