Naledi Pandor first person booed at Cosatu's main Workers’ Day rally

Clement Manyathela, EWN Reporter was at the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu)'s main Workers’ Day rally in Bloemfontein. The event was cancelled as scuffles broke out between pro and anti-Zuma groups at the rally. Manyathela says the booing began as soon as the programme began.

They called in African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee( NEC) member, Naledi Pandor, she was the first person actually to be booed.

Then you also had Sdumo Dlamini going on stage and people didn't want to listen to him. He got there and declared whether people boo or not, he is still the Cosatu president.

Clement Manyathela, EWN Reporter

Manyathela says as soon as President Jacob Zuma arrived the rally become chaotic. He adds that mostly people clad in ANC regalia were cheering the president while the workers clad in union t-shirts booed and denounced his presence.

The organisers lost control of the rallies.

Manyathela says despite bringing leaders of the ANC, The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and The South African Communist Party (SACP) to calm the situation it was then decided to cancel the event.
