SA heavy hitters unite to facilitate platform for national dialogue

A number of concerned South African foundations have collaborated to launch the National Foundations Dialogue Initiative (NFDI) which aims to convene a series of discussions.

The foundations include the Chief Albert Luthuli Foundation, Helen Suzman Foundation, Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, FW de Klerk Foundation and the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, reports EWN's Gia Nicolaides.

Members of the NFDI also include former president Kgalema Motlanthe and former deputy president Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.

The NFDI has united over concerns about the negative developments in South Africa, Nicolaides explains.

They've come together around a common cause. They say there's a lot going wrong in the country and want to provide a platform for South Africans to discuss this without violence.

The first NFDI dialogue will take place on Friday and the discussions aim to tackle issues such as political governance, the state of the economy and the Constitution.

All sectors of society have been urged to participate in these conversations for better public accountability and governance.

The NFDI will broadcast the ongoing discussions online (via YouTube) and will publish the outcomes of each session before compiling a final report.
