Using bakkies to transport school kids will be illegal from May 11

Spokesperson for the Department of Transport, Ishmael Mnisi, says the road traffic regulation has been amended to specifically include that school children may not be transported for reward in the goods compartment of a vehicle.

He says the regulation also prohibits transportation of people in the goods compartment of a bakkie for a reward, provided that the owner applies for a permit to do so.
