Gauteng police commissioner Deliwe de Lange has confirmed 50 people have been arrested for crimes related to public violence, theft and the possession of stolen property.

Numerous shops, bottle stores and petrol stations were damaged and looted.

Azania Mosaka spoke to Marcus Jacobs who is the Head of the Greater Eldorado Park Ministers' Network.

Jacobs says government has been failing to resolve issues of unemployment, housing and drug abuse in the area.

At this point in time the coloured group is hurting tremendously. One is that coloured men are not getting work, it is amazing how many are at home. In the process we have been trying to address government about how we can address the last problem of unemployment of men in our community.

Marcus Jacobs, Head of the Greater Eldorado Park Ministers Network

In the community of greater Eldorado Park alone we have over 1 200 shebeens and drug houses, these problems have been raised with government since our new dispensation and absolutely nothing has been done.

The problem is also here is that the ANC is not delivering in coloured communities based on this - that the majority of the people vote DA and so they are just sidelined. In Eldorado Park, there has been no development since 1983.
