Gigaba says focus must be on driving down inequality, not semantics

9 May 2017 4:20 PM

Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba answered questions from MPs about his stance on the buzz term 'radical economic transformation'.

Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba says South African must exercise their minds over how to drive down inequality, instead of obsessing over the semantics of 'radical economic transformation' versus 'inclusive growth'.

He says radical economic transformation is a debate and discussion that will continue in the country and... says whatever you call it the aim is to bring millions of South Africans into the economy.

Gigaba says he remains positive about South Africa's growth prospects in spite of economic challenges facing the country.

Gigaba spoke during his first appearance before Parliament's finance committee since his appointment, reports EWN's Gaye Davis.

Davis says the members of Parliament (MPs) were concerned about "mixed messages" emerging from the ministry.
