Stellenbosch University distances itself from Nazi-like posters

Stellenbosch University says it plans to engage a group of students belonging to an organisation called "The New Right", following public outrage over a set of posters illustrating past images associated with white nationalism and anti Semitism.

The group which allegedly put up the posters on campus, has called a meeting on May 11 to “Fight for Stellenbosch”.

The edited images are believe to be sourced from the League of German Girls, the female section of the Hitler Youth and Nazi propaganda media.

The posters are historically associated with white supremacy, antiSemitism and white nationalism.

The university's management has distanced itself from the posters.

Spokesperson Martin Viljoen says they are investigating.

We are definitely busy with an investigation to try and engage the organisers of this event and see what the motives are because these images are definitely disturbing and it is definitely not the type of thing we want on our campus.

Martin Viljoen, Stellenbosch University spokesperson

We must now give the investigators an opportunity to get to the bottom of this so we can take it further, whether a disciplinary process must follow or what the process should be.
