SABC must review its funding model to avoid another financial breakdown - SOS

The SABC interim board will have to address "structural issues" to avoid another financial breakdown, lobby group Save Our SABC (SOS) Coalition has said.

The issue that is sitting at the heart of this is the funding model.

Duduetsang Makuse, Coordinator at Save Our SABC (SOS) Coalition

SOS coordinator Duduetsang Makuse says the public broadcaster will have to review its funding model in order to create revenue and reduce its overdependence on commercial advertising.

Makuse adds that the board will also have to address the political interference at the SABC which she says is created by the "loopholes in policy and legislation".

The SABC briefed Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Communications on its corporate and annual performance plan for the next financial year.

It's reported that the SABC has officially applied for a bail out from Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo.
