Local film 'Bypass' hits theaters (and why you should go watch it)

A unique South African medical thriller has hit screens at Ster-Kinekor across the country on Friday.

The film, Bypass, explores the dark world of illegal human organ trafficking, explains director Shane Vermooten.

The plot revolves a round a desperate mother and cardiac surgeon who is willing to got to extreme lengths to get a organ transplant for her son.

She has to turn her back against everything she believes in to save her sons life, and then we threw her into this world, this dark underbelly of organ trafficking.

Vermooten says the production marks his first feature-length film and was very a much a family affair with his wife writing and co-producing alongside his parents.

Lead actress Natalie Bekker says she was drawn to the powerful character of the protagonist ( Dr. Lisa Cooper).

I could really just go where I wanted to with the character, and it was just liberating.
