Dr. van Loggerenberg says in principle you should get a seasonal flu vaccine

Dr. Charl van Loggerenberg, MD at International SOS says sniffles and cold are more common in autumn and winter. Van Loggerenberg says in principle everyone should get themselves a seasonal flu vaccine unless you have a valid medical reason not to.

It's a once a year thing.

Dr. Charl van Loggerenberg, MD at International SOS

The flu vaccine really does afford you good protection against a vast array of the strains of flu viruses that circulate and will give you good protection for the year.

Dr. Charl van Loggerenberg, MD at International SOS

Van Loggerenberg explains that it is not ideal to get the vaccine when you are ill. He adds that ideally you may want to get vaccinated when your maxim risks are in place. He says as the season gets colder, you will spend more time indoors and around other people who are likely to spread the virus leaving you more exposed to the virus.

The viruses themselves like colder, drier climates so the viruses tend to survive a little bit better in winter.

Van Loggerenberg says you cannot treat the common cold with over the counter medicine even those prescribed by medical doctors. He says the medicine prescribed will only treat your symptoms instead.
