Mashaba won't talk to Eldos residents until he has the housing budget to deliver

Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba is in the ninth month of his tenure.

He sat down with Eusebius Mckaiser on why he is looking to Johannesburg to drive the country's economy amid unhappiness with the current housing crisis and poor service delivery in parts of the city.

Speaking about the recent protests and demands by residents from Eldorado Park and surrounds for him to address them, Mashaba says he cannot do so yet.

As you are aware next week Monday we are announcing my budget, my budget for housing has been cut to R145 million, cut by half. If we are making these promises to people where is the money going to come from?

Herman Mashaba, Johannesburg mayor

I need to know where the money is coming from, I cannot afford to stand in front of the public of Eldos and Ennerdale and say to them I am going to do whatever when I do not know if I am going to have the money or not,

Herman Mashaba, Johannesburg mayor

Speaking on his administration, Mashaba had this to say.

This coalition arrangement is actually the best thing that has happened to this country.

Herman Mashaba, Johannesburg mayor

The residents can rest assured that their mayor is not going to lie to them, abuse his power because he is not only accountable to his party but he is accountable to other parties as well.
