Santaco welcomes Competition Commission probe into public transport fares

The Competition Commission is now investigating different types of public transport amid complaints that minibus taxes, metered taxis, uber, buses, trains and the Gautrain are all setting their own prices without going through the Transport Department.

The South Africa National Taxi Council has welcomed the probe saying they have been concerned about imbalances within public passenger transport sector.

Santaco President, Phillip Taaibosch, says minibus taxi passengers have been excluded from the subsidy for all passengers within South Africa.

Taaibosch says taxi passengers should be subsidised like other public transport passengers.
