Lead SA takes a stand against xenophobia in silent vigil at Constitution Hill

On Tuesday April 21 Lead SA hosted a silent vigil at the Constitutional Hill precinct in Johannesburg. The vigil, organised in an effort to take a stand against the ongoing xenophobic violence in South Africa, took place from 7pm and closed around 9pm.

We say #NoToXenophobia

KFM and CapeTalk, under Lead SA joined in on social media to show solidarity with their sister stations in Johannesburg.

All South Africans, unable to attend the vigil, were called to light a candle against xenophobia and Tweet @leadsa as well as @KFMza @CapeTalk567 and @Radio702 or Facebook a photo using the hashtag #NoToXenophobia on the Lead SA and station pages during the event.

The photos were added to the wall of images created online in memory of those who have lost their lives.

Though Lead SA was not actively calling for donations of food and supplies for the victims who have been displaced, many other organisations were collecting goods for the victims, including Gift of the givers who can still be reached on 0800 786 911.

Companies, non-profit organisations and other institutions were encouraged to support the event. The following organisations had already pledged their support:

  • Proudly SA
  • The Premier of Gauteng
  • Brand SA
  • 67 Blankets
  • The Treatment Action Campaign
  • Wits University
  • Rhema Church
  • Investec
  • Shout SA
  • Johannesburg Stock Exchange
  • Gauteng Community Police Board
  • The City of Joburg
  • Justice Project SA
  • Miss Earth
  • Future Leaders

The campaign was in response to a spate of xenophobic attacks in several parts of South Africa that have left thousands of people displaced and several dead.
