ANC backs role of commercial farmers - Agriculture Minister

Agriculture Minister Senzeni Zokwana says he is pleased with how farmers have worked productively despite the drought which hit South Africa last year.

Zokwana says the African National Congress (ANC) appreciates the role played by commercial farmers.

He says he is convinced that there is no view that agricultural sector should be damaged.

I'm hoping that the coming ANC conference will deal with this. Hopefully, we will be mindful of the need to feed our nation, the need to retain our farmers who are still in the production, but at the same time make sure that land is available for those who didn't have land before, who must come on board to join their counterparts.

Senzeni Zokwana, Agriculture Minister

Zokwana says ensuring food production and affordability are government priorities.

Stephen Grootes spoke to the Minister at the NAMPO Harvest Day.
