Cross Cape cyclists discover dorpies and hidden gems along the way

The Cross Cape Bike Route kicked off last week from Plettenberg Bay towards Cape Town.

The inaugural cycle route was launched in a bid to boost the Western Cape economy and revive tourism in the province.

Economic Opportunities MEC for Alan Winde has been on the road with riders, discovering remote towns and lesser known attractions along the way.

It's been outstanding! I was shown a whole lot of new places... Have you heard of a little town called Zebra? It's got about five houses.

When we went over the Montagu Pass, we ended up having late breakfast of roosterbrood and moerkoffie made on the side of the road for us by locals.

The race started on 12 May and will come to an end at the final stop in Stellenbosch on 18 May.
