Soon after John Maytham and the father of 10-year-old Gabriel pleaded with the public to help find the autistic child, Michael from lakeside called in to say they had found him.

We've got Gabriel here and somebody from the school has just arrived...he was in the river here at lakeside. George has just arrived and has him.

Michael from lakeside, found Gabriel

I was near home when I heard you and went down to the river, but there were a number of people done here helping.

An emotional John Maytham applauded the community spirit that had helped find the boy so quickly.

Earlier we reported:

Gabriel is 10 years old. He is non-verbal and autistic. He has light brown hair, blue eyes and is wearing gray shorts and a white shirt.

He was last seen leaving his school, Snap Autistic Acadamy, in Raapkraal road, Kirstenhof, at 16.10.

Gabriel's father George arrived to fetch his son, only to be told the child had left the premises.

He is unlikely to answer to his name because of his autistic condition, says distraught father George, calling into The John Maytham Show.

My son is a runner as well, so if you leave gates open he is going to bolt.

If he hears my voice he will stop.
