Last week Eskom confirmed that Brian Molefe would be returning to the helm as CEO.

Molefe resigned from Eskom after being implicated in the Public Protector's report.

Eskom has alleged that Molefe took early retirement, in contradiction to Molefe's resignation letter in which he said he resigns voluntarily in the interest of good governance.

The Eskom board then decided to give Molefe a R30 million payout after his resignation, which was turned down by the Minister of Public Enterprises, Lynne Brown. Brown has argued that reinstating him is a better option.

This has sparked much criticism from many quarters, including the ANC.

On Monday Molefe received a rousing welcome upon his return to Megawatt Park.

But Molefe had only just reported for duty when more allegations were revealed.

Then AmaBhungane Centre for Investigative Journalism reported that former Mining Minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi had revealed new allegations that Molefe and Eskom chair Ben Ngubane pressed him to blackmail resources giant Glencore to ensure that the Gupta's take over Optimum mine.
