We won't lose power if the UDM pulls out - Athol Trollip

On Tuesday, Democratic Alliance, Executive Mayor Athol Trollip announced his decision to remove his deputy mayor, the United Democratic Movement's (UDM) Mongameli Bobani from the mayoral committee amid huge tensions between the two.

The decision to remove a coalition partner was not taken lightly.

Trollip says he removed coalition partner, Mongameli Bobani because there have been a number of problems brought to attention since mid December.

Bobani championed a number of people that have been disgraced and fired in the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality, he says.

Trollip says that it is stipulated in their coalition agreement that if matters cannot be resolved at a local level, they get escalated to a provincial and then eventually to a national level.

They've since had two sessions with their national leadership of the respective parties, and at each one of those meetings, the issues were forward alongside supporting documents and evidence of his claims. Trollip says Bobani has done none of that.

General Holomisa and the UDM have been sitting on their hands about this matter for five months.
