Eskom apparently gave Gupta-linked Trillian a R419m leg up, to buy Optimum mine

AmaBhungane has revealed new evidence showing that the Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown misled Parliament about contracts between Eskom and Trillian Capital Partners.

Last year, Brown denied rumours of a lucrative pipeline of contracts between Eskom and Trillian Capital Partners.

But at the time, Trillian's subsidiary companies had already invoiced Eskom for R266 million.

AmaBhungane has proof that Gupta-owned Trillian invoiced Eskom R419 million over nine months in 2016.

AmaBhungane's Sam Sole explains how the unit uncovered how Trillian, the financial services company owned by Gupta lieutenant Salim Essa, received money from Eskom.

We've also looked at payments by Eskom to Trillian and identified R235 million that contributed to the purchase of Optimum Mine.

Sole says invoices dating between March 2016 - December 2016 show that Eskom paid almost R420 million to Trillain, a company which didn't exist until 1 March last year.
