Democratic Alliance executive mayor, Athol Trollip, lambasted the conduct of his deputy mayor, the United Democratic Movement's (UDM) Mongameli Bobani.
Trollip said he had no choice but to remove Bobani because of what he calls continued misconduct.
UDM's Bantu Holomisa disagrees.
Here you have a person who is a complainant, a policeman and also a judge.— Major General Bantu Holomisa, President of the United Democratic Movement (UDM)
Holomisa says there was an agreement between the UDM and DA leader, Mmusi Maimane that the matter be investigated by at least two people.
Instead, they received communication from the Chairperson of DA federal council James Selfe that Bobani should be removed from his position on or by May 16, says Holomisa.
Then I said no, over my dead body. They can go jump. That will not happen, there is a procedure we agreed upon.— Major General Bantu Holomisa, President of the United Democratic Movement (UDM)
On Monday we will be discussing that with the leaders of other coalition partners.— Major General Bantu Holomisa, President of the United Democratic Movement (UDM)
Holomisa says the scheduled meeting will determine who is in the wrong. He adds that his party is dedicated to the coalition and will ensure it succeeds.
