IEC confirms ConCourt rule that voters must have residential addresses

A listener received an email from Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) and forwarded it to CapeTalk's John Maytham, out of concern that it may be a hoax.

Rev Courtney Sampson, Provincial Election Officer for the Western Cape says the IEC has been working hard with this particular matter.

The launch of the online facility mentioned in the email is to assist the voters and the IEC with maintaining the voters roll to make it easier for people.

We're making use of every opportunity during by-elections to make sure we have the proper addresses of people.

Rev Courtney Sampson, Provincial Election Officer for the Western Cape

Sampson adds that they are working towards adding those living in informal settlements on the voters roll and ensuring they fall under the correct voting district.
