Alternatives to using a high pressure washer in the middle of a drought

High pressure hoses are often used to wash off the walls before and prepare for repaint or even at a car wash.

But with water shortages in the Western Cape, should painting companies be allowed to use high pressure washers to prepare the walls?

The flow rate of a high pressure washer is said to be in the region of between 300 - 400 litres a minute.

Technical director at Plascon, Carlos Costa, says there are other alternatives that can be used to prepare walls other than high pressure washer.

He says for lead based paint, using the mechanical way to remove the paint could be harmful and only a high pressure washer can be used.

Costa says people should consider using grey water instead of potable water in order to save water.
