The Governing Body Foundation is calling for government to amend the school fee-exemption policy to exclude families that earn more than R600 000 a year.

Elijah Mhlanga, spokesperson for the National Department of Basic Education, acknowledges that times have changed adding that the profile of a typical South African family has evolved.
He says the department is looking at reviewing some policies to suit the changing times.
We have taken the task of reviewing the entire schools act and all laws governing schools so that we strengthen the entire system doing away with all the weaknesses that exist so that we close the gaps.— Elijah Mhlanga, Spokesperson for the Department of Basic Education
The reviewed laws will soon be made available for public comment, says Mhlanga.
